Lodz (Litzmannstadt) 5, 10, and 20 Mark Tokens
In 1943 the Ghetto issued tokens in 5 and 10 mark denominations and struck them in Magnesium and Aluminum.
Although dated 1943 a 20 mark token was struck in aluminum but was actually issued in July 1944 shortly before the Ghetto was liquidated. The magnesium are scarcer in higher grade than the aluminum because the metal deteriorates so rapidly. Many restrikes have been produced after the war because the original dies were recovered. It can be very difficult to determine a genuine issue from a restrike.
