Campo Concentramento Per Internati Civili Arbe

The Arbe camp was opened in July 1942 on the Italian occupied island of Rab which is now in Croatia.

The camp was very brutal and could be actually termed a concentration cam.  The mortality rate was 18% which is higher than Buchenwald at 15%.  The camp held Slovenians, Croatians, and Jews.  At its peak it held 10,000 to 15,000 people.  After the Italian armistice most of the internees escaped some joining the Yugoslav partisans.  Many of the Jews were shipped to the Italian mainland however 204 were captured by the Germans and sent to Auschwitz. The denominations issued were 10, 50 centesimi and 1, 2, 5, and 10 Lire.  Notes are scarce from this camp
