Mauthausen

Mauthausen was located in Austria at the site of a large quarry.

It was a very brutal camp requiring prisoners to carry heavy stones up 186 stairs. Scrip was issued in two types. Type 1 reads Konzentrationslager-Mauthausen on the first line and type 2 is the usual format for a Pramienschein note. There are four denominations .50, 1, 2, and 5 RM. Notes from this camp are very scarce. The 0.5 was previously reported as unconfirmed, however a low grade example has been found.
