Cyprus DP Camp (AJDC) Type 1 and 2
The British set up DP camps to hold Jews that were desiring to emigrate to Palestine.
The notes for the camp were printed by the American-Jewish Joint Distribution Committee by the Sinai Press in Jerusalem. There are 3 denominations, 1 shilling, 2 shillings, and 5 shillings. There were two types, type one reads good for purchase in canteens in Cyprus or in exchange for cash in Jerusalem and type 2 good for purchase in the canteens. These notes are extremely rare and difficult to find with prices over $2500.
