Lodz (Litzmannstadt) Postal Issues

Do to a shortage of small change the Lodz Ghetto Post Office produces small chits (Postabteilung) in the denomination of 10 pfennig.

The chits are dated April 17, 1942 and May 15, 1944. There are many varieties of the chits, nine are illustrated. Be very careful when buying as many fakes have been produced on ink jet printers. Another way the Lodz Post Office tried to alleviate the small change shortage was to overstamp 50 pfennig notes with 10 and two 20 pfennig overstamps. The plan was to cut the notes to create the smaller denominations. Partial notes have not been found. Care must be taken when buying these notes as many reproductions have been produced.
