Metropole

The Metropole Civilian Internment Camp was located in Douglas on the Isle of Man.

The camp was actually composed of four hotels that housed the internees. The camp operated from 1941 until 1944. It was sometimes referred to as the S camp. Two types of scrip were issued. The first type resembled postage stamps and were issued in denominations of 1/2d and 1d and were printed on a a type of cloth lined cardboard. The second printed on white paper 140 x 78 mm about the size of a banknote in denominations of 10 Shillings and 1 Pound. All notes are extremely scarce especially the two higher denominations.
