Italian Somaliland British POW

These notes were produced by the British East Africa Command and were thought to have circulated in POW camps in Italian Somaliland.

However no one in the camps recall using the scrip. The fact that the notes say token money and not negotiable leads researchers to believe that they were not intended for regular circulation but rather for use in a camp canteen. The notes were issued in four denominations, 5 cents,10 cents, 1 shilling, and 5 shillings. The 10 cent note is the most commonly found but all are fairly scarce.  The 5 cent note is found as an unfinished note (see picture)
